Talat’s decline was looming La(ta)rge

By no means would it be incorrect to state that beginning of the 1960s was marked by Talat Mahmood’s waning career as a playback singer, owing to the changing trends in Hindi film music (for which his velvety vocals were not suitable).

However, even the songs he rendered in that period continue to be popular.

Aaha Rimjhim Ke Yeh Pyare Pyare Geet Liye, from Usne Kaha Tha (1960), was a case in point.

He was joined behind the microphone by none other than Lata Mangeshkar.

Shailendra penned the song, which was composed by Salil Choudhury.
