Dey Ma(nna)de many people nostalgic

Many people leave their motherlands and their loved ones and seek greener pastures, either in a bigger city in the same country or overseas.

And after a point, some people begin to feel nostalgic.

It is this feeling that was conveyed superbly by none other than Manna Dey in Aye Mere Pyare Watan.

It was the only song from Kabuliwala (1961) on this blog.

Although the protagonist yearned for his hometown, Kabul, there’s no two ways about the fact that the track, which Prem Dhawan penned, had universal appeal.

It was composed by Salil Choudhury.
