(Sham)S(h)adly, Begum pLa(ta)yed second fiddle

It was understandable that Lata Mangeshkar was the star on the soundtrack of Mughal-E-Azam, but it was unfair that Shamshad Begum had to play second fiddle to her when the playback queens, accompanied by a chorus, rendered Teri Mehfil Mein, the fifth and final song from the film on this blog.

The track, which was penned by Shakeel Badayuni, was five minutes and as many seconds long.

Begum – no longer a sought-after singer at that point – was in form.

Naushad Ali composed the track, which happened to be the last song the duo rendered together.
