Sadly, Talat’s (La)talent remained underutilised

Sajjad Hussain, as I have mentioned in my blog on the music of Hindi films released in the 1950s, called Talat Mahmood Galat Mahmood.

However, it was actually the film industry that was galat on two counts – firstly, his talent remained underutilised, and eventually, he was sidelined.

But not before he rendered a few gems, such as Itna Na Mujhse Tu Pyar Badha, from Chhaya (1961).

He was joined behind the microphone by Lata Mangeshkar.

The track, which was penned by Rajinder Krishan, was composed by Salil Choudhury.

It was based on Mozart’s 40th Symphony.
