O P Nayyar and songs
based on ragas are seldom used in the
same sentence, but by no means would it be incorrect to state that the composer
surprised everyone with his Kalpana (1960)
gem, Tu Hai Mera Prem Devta.
Chock full of shuddh Hindi lines (such as, “Antarghat tak pyaasi hoon main”), the track was penned by Qamar Jalalabadi.
Despite the fact that it was sung from the perspective of female devotees (as was evidenced by the aforementioned line), it was rendered by the legendary pair of male vocalists, Manna Dey and Mohammed Rafi.
