Rafi could be Ba(a)nked on

Regardless of the type of track, one could always bank on Mohammed Rafi to deliver the goods. And that was precisely what he did every time he was in the recording booth.

So it was hardly a surprise that Yeh Teri Saadgi Yeh Tera Baankpan – the only song from Shabnam (1964) on this blog – was a hit.

The crooner rendered the Usha Khanna composition – which contained the Urdu phrase Tauba shikan (which could be translated to, “A person who breaks a promise”) – with a great deal of saadgi (simplicity).

It was penned by Javed Anwar.
